How Acupuncture Works
Modern science has shown that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemical called endorphins. These assist the body to heal itself and give pain relief.
The traditional view is the ‘Qi’ flows around the body in channels. If the Qi is flowing freely then the body is in a healthy state. If there is a problem, energy stagnates. The stimulation of appropriate acupuncture points frees this stagnation.
According to Chinese Philosophy, “health” is the relative balance of yin and yang energies within the body, while “illness” is the relative imbalance.
Acupuncture is a truly holistic approach to well being. Usually 6 to 12 very fine disposable sterile needles are used during each treatment which lasts 30 to 40minutes.
Most people find acupuncture a very relaxing comfortable experience and indeed many fall asleep during treatment.
Depending on the nature of your condition, Chinese herbs may also be recommended.
